MEDIA
My passion for media began in the early '70's when I took an introductory photography course with Geoff Winningham. It was a course in black and white film production, and since I didn't have a car, I remember all of my projects were in the neighborhood of Rice University. I enjoyed shooting geometrical patterns in everyday objects and nature, with stark contrast. One class included a talk by a visiting photographer who stated that he shot about fifteen rolls of film on a normal day. My classmates were awed. Later, after my transfer to the radio-tv-film department at the University of Texas in Austin, I worked a part-time job cooking pizza so I'd have enough money for short motion pictures. My favorite included a scene on 6th Street, which at the time was in a state of decay. Editing was a bug-a-boo then as well, with reels and tape splices. Media has come a long way, baby.
